Recently, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh made public the results of a preliminary trial testing the effectiveness of a potential vaccine to prevent colon cancer. While larger studies must still be conducted to show the vaccine prevents cancer and death, Dr.Anton Bilchik, MD, knows that important steps are being taken in the fight against cancer. Out of the 39 participants to receive the experimental vaccine, 17 saw a strong antibody response while 22 did not. It was determined this was due to “immunosuppressive cells” in the non-responders. Those that had a positive response showed promise for the vaccine.
