‘Desperate Housewives’ Star Reveals She’s Recovery from Cancer Treatment

Famously known for playing Bree Van de Kamp on ABC’s hit show ‘Desperate Housewives’, actress Marcia Cross revealed on Instagram that she is in recovery after receiving treatment for anal cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, anal cancer is less common compared to colon cancer, but statistics show that most people diagnosed with it are in their early 60s. This puts the 56 year-old Hollywood actress at the cusp of that age group. 

Diagnosing anal cancer can be difficult because there currently are no screening guidelines for the general public and the symptoms can also be mistaken for other less severe perianal-type diseases. Self magazine recently asked Dr. Anton Bilchik about anal cancer’s tendency to conceal itself, in which he commented,

It can be difficult to differentiate anal cancers from other perianal-type diseases because the symptoms are quite broad.
